'Wick Women's Soccer Handles Bard College 3-0

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY - Five different Hawks picked up at least a point as the Hartwick women's soccer team earned a convincing 3-0 victory at Bard College on Wednesday evening. The Hawks (4-2) jumped on the Raptors early, scoring in the opening four minutes and they cruised to their fourth win in five matches.

Junior Katie Schild (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) opened the scoring with an unassisted half volley for her first goal in a Hartwick uniform 3:15 into the game. 'Wick added to its lead just over 20 minutes later as a Carly Pine (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) long throw-in found freshman Jessica Bentley (Worcester, NY/Schenevus) who tallied for the first time in her career. The Hawks ended the opening 45 minutes with a 6-1 edge in shots and goalie Alyssa Rondo (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) was not forced to make a save.

Fifteen minutes, 54 seconds into the second half, freshman Cristina Sicari (St. James, NY/Smithtown East) became the third Hawk to register her first Hartwick goal as she scored off an assist by sophomore Emily Thorndike (Dover, MA / Dover Sherborn).

The Hawks were in command throughout the game and finished with a wide 15-5 margin in shots on the night. Rondo played the first 75:45 of the game and was not called upon to stop one Raptor shot. Kelly Griffin (Wynantskill, NY/Columbia) played the last 14:15 and made two saves.

Hartwick, which is 1-0 in the Empire 8, hosts Utica a week from tonight in its conference home opener. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. on Elmore Field.
