Ithaca Too Much for Hawks

ONEONTA, NY-
The women's soccer team hosted #14 ranked Ithaca in an Empire 8 matchup on a cold and wet Elmore Field and the Bombers would come away with the 4-1 victory on Saturday afternoon. Ithaca remains undefeated on the year with a record of 7-0-2 and 3-0 in the Empire 8 while the Hawks fall to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the Empire 8.

Ithaca scored twice in the first half.  Ellyn Grant-Keane scored first for the Bombers on a pass from Caroline Jastremski in the 12th minute.  On a corner kick from Julie Winn, Amanda Callahan would direct it into the net for the Bomber's second score of the game at the 23rd minute.  Despite only getting off two shots in the first half, the Hawks had a chance to cut the deficit with just under 16 minutes left in the first when Christina Sicari's (St. James, NY/Smithtown East) shot went just high of the goal.

The Bombers would increase their lead just over two minutes into the second period when Winn's shot was knocked down by Hawk goaltender Hope Brown (Sherburne, NY/Sherburne-Earlville) but went into the goal to put Ithaca on top 3-0.  Hartwick would finally find pay dirt in the 65th minute when Jayme Bentley's (Worcester, NY/Schenevus Central) pass to Katie Schild (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) found the back of the net to make it a 3-1 game. Schild has now scored at least one point in four straight games for the Hawks.

Callanan would get her second goal of the game later in the 69th minute to complete the scoring.

Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans Selkirk) started for Hartwick in goal and had three saves. Brown replaced her in the second half and had one save.  Becca Salant registered three saves for Ithaca.

The Bombers outshot the Hawks 16-6 in the game.

Schild's goal ended 'Wick's seven game scoreless streak against Ithaca dating back to 2003.

The Hawks head on the road for a non-conference match with Union Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
