Hartwick Falls to St. John Fisher in Home Finale

ONEONTA, NY- Visiting St. John Fisher dominated from start to finish as they defeated host Hartwick 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at a windy and rainy Elmore Field. The Cardinals improve their record to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the Empire 8 while Hartwick falls to 3-8 overall and 1-5 in the Empire 8.

Before the game, the team recognized its six graduating seniors who were playing in their last home game: Sayde Whitman (Eagle Bridge, NY/Hoosick Falls), Alexandra Luke (Eagle Bridge, NY/Hoosick Falls), Katie Schild (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott), Krista Marzano (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills East), Lysandra Tetreault (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties), and Julie Kessler (Canton,CT/Canton).

The Cardinals scored early in the first half when Laura Burgstrom's long shot sailed over the head of Hawk goaltender Hope Brown (Sherburne, NY/Sherburne-Earlville). Despite being outshot 9-1 in the first half, Hartwick held its own against St. John Fisher to keep the score 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the skies opened as a heavy rain fell on the field and both teams struggled to maintain control on the slick grass. The Cardinals increased their lead in the 73rd minute when Val Hanson's shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and into the goal. Later in the 81st minute, Kaitlin Moran passed to Alexandra Rohloff who deposited the ball past Brown for the final score of the game.

Brown made 10 saves in goal for the Hawks. Noel Peck had two saves for the Cardinals.
St. John Fisher outshot Hartwick 19-2 in the game.

The Hawks will be at Stevens next Saturday at 1 p.m.
