SCHENECTADY, NY- The women's volleyball team competed at the Interleague Challenge hosted by Union College and were defeated in both of their matches on Saturday.
The Hawks faced host Union in the morning match and lost by the score of 3-1 (21-25, 17-25, 25-16, 15-25). Brianna Eckert (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) had a double-double with 14 assists and 17 digs. Lauren Mausert (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) was just one kill shy of a double-double as she had nine kills and 14 digs. Shannon McGee (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) contributed 15 assists. Dana Martin (Chester, NY/Burke Catholic) had a team high 13 kills and Christina Vitale (Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. John the Baptist) chipped in 10 digs.
Hartwick went against cross-town rival Oneonta in the afternoon match and fell by the score of 3-0. Mausert paced the team nine digs. Christine Confer (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) contributed six digs. Eckert had nine assists six digs while McGee had eight assists and also six digs. Mausert, Martin, and Courtney Desmond (Corltandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) all led in kills with five. Desmond also blocked five attempts and afterwards was named to the All-Tournament Team.
