ONEONTA, NY- The men's and women's swimming and diving teams both extended their winning streaks as they defeated cross-city rival SUNY Oneonta on Saturday afternoon at Moyer Pool. Both squads are 6-0 while both Red Dragon teams fall to 1-2.
The men won by the score of 152-86. Michael Phillips (Austin TX), Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA), and Brad Ranson (Pennington, NJ) all won two races each for the Hawks. Phillips won the 200 IM (1:57.82) and the 200 Breast (2:14.30). His time in the 200 IM also set a new pool record that was previously held by Hartwick's Jason Faulkner in 2000 (1:58.01). Kleso took the 1000 freestyle (9:52.78) and the 500 freestyle (4:46.49). His 500 time broke the previous record of 4:46.69 that was set in 1996. Ranson was the winner of the 200 free (1:48.48) and the 100 free (49.30).
John Wojtech (Bremerton, WA) took the 50 free in a time of 22.58. Chris Willcox (Dresher, PA) won the 200 fly in a time of 1:58.45. Cody Cupit (Nacogdoches, TX) claimed the 200 back with a time of 1:58.78.
The 400 free relay team of Ranson, Kleso, Wojtech, and Lydon Schultz (Mt. Pleasant, SC) took victory with a winning time of 3:19.76. The 400 medley relay team of Cupit, Phillips, Miles Blaney (New York, NY), and Schultz, won in 3:35.36. That broke the previous record of 3:36.08 that was set by Hartwick in 1995.
The women won by the score of 143-91. Gwendolyn Mathias (Sunland, CA) and Kaitlyn Campbell (Hanover Park, IL) both won two races for the Hawks. Mathias was the winner of the 200 back (2:15.84) and 1000 free (11:06.96) while Campbell took the 200 free (2:02.06) and the 500 free (5:28). Jade Woodend (Visalia, CA) claimed the 50 free with a time of 24.88. Her sister Justine (Visalia, CA) won the 100 free in a time of 55.81. Stephanie Ha (Everett, WA) took victory in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.03. Mallory Weber (Naperville, IL) was victorious in the 200 fly with a time of 2:18.93. Clare Nelson (South Hadley, MA) was the winner of the 200 breast with a time of 2:32.50.
The 400 medley relay team of Ha, Nelson, and both Woodends claimed the race with a winning time of 4:07.06. That time broke the old record of 4:09.19 that was set by Shippensburg in 1997. The 400 free relay team of the Woodends, Campbell, and Ha won in a time of 3:45.25.
Lindsey Bowker (Bothell, WA) won the three-meter dive for Hartwick with a score of 166.05.
Both teams will host RPI tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at Moyer Pool.
