Women’s Soccer Drops Double Overtime Thriller to Oneonta

ONEONTA, NY- Despite being outshot 23-3, the women's soccer team held off the visiting Oneonta Red Dragons for almost four periods but ultimately fell to their cross-town rivals 2-1 in double OT on Tuesday night at Elmore Field. The loss drops Hartwick's record to 1-2 while Oneonta improves to 1-2.

The teams were scoreless after the first period of play. The Red Dragons had a chance to take the lead in the 27th minute but Alana Greco's shot bounced off the top of the crossbar and out of play. The Hawks first shot of the game was not until the 41st minute of the game when Emily Thorndike (Dover, MA/Dover Sherburn) hit a direct strike to goaltender Amy Lusby.

Oneonta would get on the board at the 79th minute when Kayla Brantmeyer banked in a shot on the left side of the goal for the score.

The lead was short lived for the Red Dragons as the Hawks would score less than four minutes later. Lysandra Tetreault's (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) shot bounced off of Lusby and right to Julie McNeff (Watervliet, NY/Catholic Central) who put it in for the score and tie the game at one.

The game remained tied at the end of regulation and through the first overtime. Just 28 seconds in, Oneonta's Krystal Scott headed the ball to Alanna Fisher whose shot slid past Hawk goaltender Hope Brown (Sherburne, NY/Sherburne-Earlville) for the game-winning goal.

Brown was stellar in goal for Hartwick as she made 12 saves. Lusby recorded two saves for the Red Dragons.

The Hawks open Empire 8 play on September 21 when they go against Utica at 7 p.m.
