Hartwick Women’s Soccer Upends Bard

ONEONTA, NY- The women's soccer team led a balanced attack against visiting Bard and snapped their three game winless streak as they defeated the Raptors 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Elmore Field. The Hawks improve their record to 2-3 while Bard falls to 3-5.

Katie Schild (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott)
set up Hartwick's first goal of the game in the 14th minute as her corner kick was taken by Julie Kessler (Canton, CT/Canton) who hit a direct strike that went over Raptor goaltender Lena James to give the Hawks the 1-0 lead. Bard had an opportunity to tie the game with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half but Maggie Huggins shot went just wide of the goal.

In the second half, the Hawks continued to put pressure on Bard and would score again near the midway point when Kristen Zimmer (Geneseo, NY/Livonia) launched a long shot from the left side of the box that sailed over James' head and in the net for the goal.

Bard had some chances to get into the game but 'Wick goaltender Hope Brown (Sherburne, NY/Sherburne-Earlville) denied every opportunity that the Raptors had.

The Hawks added a late goal with under two minutes remaining in the contest. Emily Thorndike (Dover, MA/Dover Sherborn) passed to Christina Sicari (St. James, NY/Smithtown East) who beat charging Raptor goaltender Amy Strawbridge and scored into an empty net for Hartwick's third and final goal of the game.

Teagan Waddingham (Coeymans Hollow, NY/Ravena-Coeymans Selkirk)
started for the Hawks in goal and made two saves. She was replaced by Brown in the second half who had five saves. James made four saves in 73:25 of playing time and Strawbridge played the last 16:35 and did not record a save.

The Hawks outshot the Raptors 15-12 in the game. Hartwick was called for five fouls while Bard had none.

'Wick returns to Empire 8 play and hosts Elmira on Wednesday night at 7 pm.
