ONEONTA, NY- The Hartwick volleyball team hosted SUNY Morrisville and dominated the match as they defeated the Mustangs 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-10) on Friday night at Lambros Arena. The Hawks improve their record to 8-11 overall while Morrisville falls to 2-8.
Britney Lintner (Ravena, NY/Ravena-Coeymans Selkirk) had a game high 22 assists for 'Wick. Shannon McGee (Corltandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) contributed 19 assists. Christina Vitale (Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. John the Baptist) led the team with 14 digs. Dana Martin (Chester, NY/Burke Catholic) recorded 11 kills while Lauren Mausert (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) chipped in with eight kills and nine digs.
Hartwick never trailed in the three-set match. The Hawks built a 14-4 lead in the first set but the Mustangs would rally and get to within four points of tying it up at 22-18. The Hawks, however, would score three of the next four points the rest of the way to take the set and a 1-0 lead.
After taking the second set 25-12, Hartwick built up leads of 16-7 and 20-9 in the final set and then went on a 5-1 run to finish off Morrisvile and claim the victory.
The Hawks return to action next Friday when they will play in the Union Tournament. Their first match will be against Skidmore at 4 p.m. followed by a match with Lasell at 8 p.m.
