Men’s Swimming and Diving Sweeps Union and Springfield; Women Split

SCHENECTADY, NY- Hartwick's men swimming and diving team improved to 12-0 with head-to-head wins over Springfield College and host Union College on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks downed the Pride by the score of 177-66 and the Dutchmen by a count of 160-83. The 'Wick women are now to 10-2 as they defeated Union 119-11 and lost to Springfield 155-86.

Michael Phillips (Austin, TX) won three events on the day to pace the Hawks. Phillips won the 200 IM (2:01.15), 200 breast (2:15.88), and 200 free (1:45.59). Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA) had two wins as he took the 500 free (4:52.44) and the 1000 free (10:01.46).

Lydon Schultz (Mount Pleasant, SC), Chris Willcox (Dresher, PA), John Wojtech (Bremerton, WA), and Cody Cupit (Nacogdoches, TX) also won races for Hartwick. Schultz took the top spot in the 50 free (22:44), Wilcox was first in the 200 butterfly (2:00.70), Cupit won the 200 back (1:59.80), and Wojtech claimed the 100 free (48.89).

The 400 medley relay team of Cupit, Kleso, Willcox, and Brad Ranson (Pennington, NJ) came in first with a time of 3:37.30. The 400 relay team of Miles Blaney (New York, NY), Wojtech, Kaird Durocher (Bethlehem, PA), and Schultz won their race in a time of 3:17.47.

For the women, Stephanie Ha (Everett, WA) won two races to lead the squad. She won the 200 IM (2:15.55) and the 200 fly (2:12.04). Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA) was the winner of the 200 back (2:12.98). Clare Nelson (South Hadley, MA) had a first-place finish in the 200 breast (2:31.50) and Kaitlyn Campbell (Hanover Park, IL) was first in the 200 free (2:00.96).

Lindsey Bowker (Bothell, WA) won the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions with scores of 199.60 and 223.65, respectively. The 400 medley relay team also picked up a win on the day as the squad of Mathias, Nelson, Ha, and Maddy Quick (Jaffrey, NH) won in 4:13.81.

Both teams will return to Moyer Pool next Saturday when they host Alfred at 1:00 p.m.
