Volleyball Defeats Morrisville on Dig Pink Night

ONEONTA, NY- The women's volleyball team won its second match in a row as the Hawks defeated SUNY Morrisville 3-1 (25-15, 25-17, 26-28, 25-18) on Tuesday evening at Lambros Arena on Dig Pink Night. With the win, Hartwick's record is now 5-11 while the Mustangs fall to 3-9.

The Hawks built an 8-2 lead that increased to 14-7 and 17-9 as they took the first set 25-15. Hartwick held a steady lead throughout much of the second set with their lead growing to as much as 23-15 before claiming the set 25-17.

The Mustangs would keep pace with Hartwick in the third set. The match was even at 7-7 but Morrisville would go on a big run and lead 20-15. The Hawks would rally and go on a 5-1 run to reduce the Mustang lead to 21-20. The teams would go back and forth exchanging points but Morrisville would score the final two points of the set to win 28-26.

In the fourth set, Morrisville would get out to a 4-1 lead. 'Wick would mount a comeback as it would go on 5-1 run to go up 6-5 and never looked back. The Hawks' lead would increase to 12-7 and 21-16 before Hartwick would finally take the set 25-18 to win the match.

Britney Lintner (Ravena, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) led Hartwick with 28 assists. Shannon McGee (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) contributed eight assists. Lauren Heiman (Dansville, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) led in kills with nine while Katie Ryan (Circleville, NY/Pine Bush) chipped in eight. Brianna Eckert (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) contributed nine digs. Christina Vitale (Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. John the Baptist) had seven digs and five service aces.

Lindsay Easterly had 19 assists for Morrisville. Dayna Scurry chipped in nine kills. Kylie Murphy contributed seven digs. Tiffany Jones-Maxwell made four blocks.

Hartwick will next head to Hoboken, NJ for Empire 8 play. The Hawks will face Houghton on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
