Volleyball Defeats Brockport at Union Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SCHENECTADY, NY- The women's volleyball team jumped out to an early lead and did not look back with a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-9, 25-17) over  SUNY Brockport at the Union Invitational held at Union College's Viniar Athletic Center on Friday evening.
 
Brockport made Hartwick earn the first set thanks to performances by Chelsea Ross who had 9 digs in the match while Hannalee Fordyce added six kills.  Sarah Zeiko contributed six assists in the match as the Golden eagles fell to 4-8 on the season.
 
Hannah Strom (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) and Dana Martin (Chester, NY/Burke Catholic) who recorded 10 and nine kills respectively led Hartwick.  Brianna Eckert (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) also contributed with 14 digs but the standout performer was  Britney Lintner (Ravena, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) who ended the match with a team-high 29 assists. 
 
In Hartwick's second match of the evening, #9 SUNY Cortland took down the Hawks as the Red Dragons won in consecutive sets 25-9, 25-21 and 25-21.
 
Cortland and Hartwick battled closely early as each team was even at eight. The Red Dragons started to pull away as they rifled off a 17-point run to win the set 25-8 to earn the 1-0 advantage.
 
Once again, 'Wick battled closely with Cortland to open the second set. Despite the Hawks' efforts, the Cortland attack continued to produce as they opened up a 13-8 lead. Cortland's lead was never in jeopardy and the Hawks were not able to come back as they dropped the second set 25-21.
 
Hartwick remained resilient as they battled hard against Cortland but could not put away from the Red Dragons as the Hawks dropped the final set 25-21. 
 
The Hawks will wrap up competition tomorrow with two matches. Hartwick will face host Union at 10 a.m. and then go against Oneonta State at 12 p.m.
