Box Score ONEONTA, NY- Visiting Stevens Institute of Technology got out to a 3-0 lead and came out victorious as it defeated the Hartwick women's soccer team 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Elmore Field. Stevens improves its record to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Empire 8 while Hartwick falls to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the Empire 8.

The Ducks controlled possession for most of the first half of play and got off six shots to Hartwick's two. Nearly 15 minutes into the game, Carly Bean hit a shot that sailed over the head of Hawks' goalkeeper Hope Brown (Sherburne, NY/Sherburne-Earlville) and into the net for a 1-0 Stevens' lead.

Later in the 37th minute, Bean would find Georgia Johnson who headed in a shot to give the Ducks a 2-0 advantage going into halftime.

Hartwick came out aggressively in the second half as the Hawks outshot the Ducks 9-4. Stevens, however, would strike again nearly five minutes into the second period when Lindsay Stoll hit a long shot that bounced over Brown's head and into the goal for the score.

The Hawks would finally get on the scoreboard in the 71st minute. Mackenzie Shipley (Sedro Wooley, WA/Sedro Wooley) hit a corner kick that Emily Thorndike (Dover, MA/Dover Sherborn) settled and then snuck the ball past Duck goalkeeper Melissa Murphy for the score to make it a 3-1 game.

Brown had three saves in goal for the Hawks. Evelyn Ting started for Stevens and had one save in the first half. She was replaced by Melissa Murphy in the second half who she had three saves.

The Hawks led in shots, 11-10. The Hawks also had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
