Box Score

ANNADALE-ON-HUDSON, NY- Cristina Sicari (St. James, NY/Smithtown East) scored the game winning goal 26 seconds into the second overtime period to give the women's soccer team a 3-2 victory over Bard College on Wednesday night. Hartwick evens its record at 3-3 while the Raptors fall to 3-4.

Mackenzie Shipley (Sedro Wooley, WA/Sedro Wooley) scored once and had two assists on the evening for the Hawks. Carly Pine (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) also had a goal. Stephanie Morini (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) contributed an assist.

Bard received goals from Alana Shaw and Sylvia Cool.

A high-scoring first half of play led to a total of four goals scored in the first 25:26 of game time. Shipley struck first for Hartwick 3:18 into the game when Emily Thorndike's (Dover, MA/Dover Sherborn) shot was deflected off the crossbar by Raptor goalkeeper Lena James and put in for goal to give Hartwick the 1-0 lead.

The 'Wick lead didn't last long when Shaw's header got past Hartwick goalkeeper Hope Brown (Sherburne, NY/Sherburne-Earlville) and evened the contest at 1-1. The Hawks regained the lead just five minutes later when Morini's cross to Pine was headed in and Hartwick was ahead 2-1. Bard would again tie up the game when Shaw's penalty kick hit the post and came out to Kool who blasted the rebound in for the score.

In the second half, the shots for both teams were even at four apiece with neither converting on their opportunities. The game headed to a first overtime period and despite the Raptors holding a 3-1 lead in shots, the game headed to a second overtime.

In the second overtime, a long ball was played into the box and it was flicked over the head of James and toward the far post by Shipley. Sicari ran at full speed to get to the ball just before it cleared the far post and pounded it in from a difficult angle to give the Hawks the win.

Brown had three saves in goal for Hartwick. James had six saves for Bard.

The Hawks led in shots, 15-12. Bard led in corner kicks, 4-2.

Hartwick remains on the road as it will face Empire 8 foe St. John Fisher this Saturday at 12 p.m.
