Box Score 2 ELMIRA, NY- The Hartwick women's volleyball team began play at the Elmira Invitational on Friday evening and dropped two close matches that both went to five games.
Hartwick lost to Houghton in the first match of the evening 3-2 (22-25, 25-12, 25-19, 11-25, 8-15).
Brianna Eckert (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) led the team with 25 digs.
Hannah Strom (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) was one kill short of a double-double as she tallied 15 kills and nine digs.
Dana Martin (Chester, NY/Burke Catholic) contributed nine kills.
Britney Lintner (Ravena, NY/Ravea-Coeymans-Selkirk) had 35 assists.
In the second match of the night, the Hawks again dropped a close decision as they fell to SUNY Brockport 3-2 (20-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-11, 5-15). Lintner led the way with 26 assists. Strom picked up nine kills and 13 digs.
Christina Vitale (Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. John the Baptist) had 14 digs.
The Hawks will wrap up the competition on Saturday with two matches. Hartwick will face RIT at 10 a.m. and then go against Wells College at 2 p.m.
