ALFRED, NY- The Hartwick men's and women's swimming and diving teams faced Empire 8 foe Alfred on Saturday afternoon and both teams came away with wins. The men won by the score of 188-87 and the women won 169-115. The men's team remains undefeated with a record of 13-0 while the women's record now stands at 11-2.
For the men,
Brad Ranson (Pennington, NJ),
Chris Willcox (Dresher, PA), and
Jeremy Torres (Poulsbo, WA) all won two events each to lead the way. Ranson was the winner of the 50 free (21.97) and the 100 free (48.46). Willcox won the 200 fly (1:58.79) and the 100 fly (54.68). Torres claimed victory in both the 100 breast (1:01.86) and the 200 breast (2:14.60).
Other winners on the day included
Joshua McNorton (Sanford, NC) who took first in the 1000 free (10:28.30) for his first win of the season.
Cory Perez (Miami, FL) swam to a first-place finish in the 200 back (2:02.30).
Miles Blaney (New York, NY) won the 500 free (5:03.56) while
Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA) claimed the 200 free (1:46.74).
Both relay teams also picked up wins. The 200 medley relay team of
Cody Cupit (Nacogdoches, TX), Kleso, Ranson, and
Lydon Schultz (Mt. Pleasant, SC) posted a time of 1:39.34 for the victory. The 200 free relay squad of Schultz, Cupit,
Evan DeGidio (Jacksonville, FL), and Ranson collectively swam to a first-place time of 1:28.73.
Andrew Beckham (Gloversville, NY) was unopposed in the both the one and three-meter diving competitions. Beckham put up scores of 201.90 and 208.35, respectively.
On the women's side,
Clare Nelson (South Hadley, MA),
Jade Woodend (Visalia, CA), and
Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA) all picked up two wins apiece. Nelson was the winner of the 100 breast (1:11.75) and the 200 breast (2:35.28). Woodend touched the wall first in the 50 free (24.69) and the 100 free (54.72). Mathias won the 1000 free (11:29.55) and the 200 back (2:19.89).
Kaitlyn Campbell (Hanover Park, IL) and
Hanna Prendeville (Glens Falls, NY) were the other Hartwick winners on the afternoon. Campbell took the 500 free (5:27.02) while Prendeville swam to victory in the 200 IM (2:19.91).
Like the men's team, both of the women's relays swam to victories. The quartet of
Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY), Nelson, Woodend, and Campbell, swam to a winning time of 1:56.07 in the 200 medley relay. In the 200 free relay, the squad of Rutigliano, Campbell,
Helen Merkley (Schenectady, NY), and Woodend came in first with a time of 1:45.22.
Lindsay Bowker (Bothell, WA) won both of her diving events. Bowker posted a score of 225.35 in one-meter diving and 228.80 in the three-meter diving.
Both teams return to action next Saturday as they face St. Lawrence in Canton, NY. The meet will start at 1 p.m.
