Men’s Swimming and Diving Sweeps Union and Springfield; Women Split

Jade Woodend was second in both the 50 and 100 free events.
ONEONTA, NY- Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams returned to the pool for the first time in 2013 as they hosted Union and Springfield on Saturday afternoon. The men defeated Union 145-96 and Springfield 128-113. The women won 125-105 over Union but fell to Springfield 153-83.

For the men, Luke Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) and Brad Ranson (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) both won two races to lead the team. Grunewald took first in the 1000 free (10:03.39) and the 500 free (4:51.40). Ranson was victorious in the 100 free (48.16) and the 50 free (21.74).

Miles Blaney (New York, NY/NYC Lab School) was the other lone winner for the Hartwick men. He touched the wall first in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.57.

The 400 medley relay team of Cody Cupit (Nacogdoches, TX/Nacogdoches), Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley), Chris Willcox (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin), and Ranson won in a time of 3:34.40. Willcox had two second place individual finishes. He was second in both the 200 IM (2:02.52) and the 200 fly (1:59). Kleso came in second in the 200 breast (2:14.22).

On the women's side, Clare Nelson (South Hadley, MA/South Hadley) picked up the lone win for the Hawks. She won the 200 breast in 2:32.12. The 400 free relay squad of Kaitlyn Campbell (Hanover Park, IL/Glenhard North), Erin Holladay (Everett, WA/Henry M. Jackson), Dana Vinyard (Willowbrook, IL/Hinsdale South), and Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA/Southwestern Academy) won in 3:52.57.

Jade Woodend (Visalia, CA/Mayfield) had a pair of second place finishes on the afternoon. She was the runner-up in the 50 free (25.24) and the 100 free (55.14). Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman) was second in the 200 IM (2:18.09). Rutigliano, Woodend, and Nelson teamed up with Mallory Weber (Naperville, IL/Waubonsie Valley) in the 400 medley relay to come in second in 4:12.25.

Both teams return to Moyer Pool next Sunday as they will host Cortland. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
