HOUGHTON, NY- The Hartwick women's soccer team trailed 1-0 at halftime but host Houghton scored four times in the second half as the Hawks fell by the score of 5-1 on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Hawks to 5-6-3 overall while the Highlanders improve to 11-3.
Houghton received three goals from Stephany Ellison who also assisted on a fourth for a seven point day. Atalie Fit added one goal and two assists. Erin Miller contributed one goal and one assist.
The Highlander led in shots 7-1 in the first half but the Hartwick defense held its ground. Ellison broke through for Houghton's first score of the afternoon in the 24
th minute to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead where the score remained at halftime.
The Highlanders increased their lead quickly in the second half a little over one minute into the period. In just over seven minutes of playing time, Houghton would score three more times to surge ahead 5-0. The Hawks would finally get on the scoreboard when
Cristina Sicari (St. James, NY/Smithtown East) scored off a pass from
Taylor Pechtel (South Glens Falls, NYSouth Glens Falls).
Hope Brown (Sherburne, NY/Sherburne-Earlville) had one save in net for the Hawks in 53:28 of game time.
Annie Millar (Illion, NY/Illion) came in to relieve her and stopped one shot in 36:02.
Houghton used three goalies in the net. Michelle Mahoney and Shawna Sprout both had one save while Andi Atherton did not face a shot.
Houghton finished the game with a 14-3 advantage in shots. Sicari had all three shots for the Hawks. The Highlander led in corner kicks, 4-3.
Hartwick will next face RPI in Troy, NY on Tuesday night. Game time is at 7:30 p.m.
