ONEONTA, NY – Visiting Nazareth scored six times in the opening 5:07 in a 17-4 victory over Hartwick's women's lacrosse team on Friday evening at Wright Stadium. With the victory, the Golden Flyers improve to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in Empire 8 play. The Hawks fall to 4-9 and 1-4 in the league.
           
Hartwick goalkeeper Steph Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) stopped 15 shots in the game in just under 56 minutes of action. The total is her second-highest of the season and her .536 save percentage is her third-highest of the campaign.
           
Kia Ference (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) and Kate Purcell (Buffalo, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) each scored first-half goals for the Hawks. Meg Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) and Ally Naja (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) each tallied in the second half.
           
Sophomore Caroline Stanford (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) continued to impress on the defensive end with game-highs of four caused turnovers and four ground balls for 'Wick.
           
After spotting the Flyers the first seven goals in the opening 8:15, the Hawks settled in and allowed only three for the remainder of the half.  Ference got the Hawks on the board with her twenty-first goal of the season at 19:58. Purcell made it 8-2 six minutes, 20 seconds later following a feed from Emily Jweid (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro).
           
Naz would get the first two goals of the second half before Meg Luce netted her nineteenth goal of the season with 16:20 remaining. Naja tallied her fourth of the year with 10 ticks left on a free-position effort to close out the scoring.
           
Alyssa Johnston and Erinn Wood combined for eight goals and six assists for Naz. Johnston accounted for five goals and an assist. Wood scored three times and had five helpers. Megan Cregan and Amy McIntosh added two goals apiece.
           
Purcell and Naja would contribute three ground balls each for Hartwick. Jweid had a team-best three draws.
           
Johnston, Cregan, and McIntosh each grabbed three ground balls for the Golden Flyers. Johnston, Brooke Sullivan, and Kayleigh Pearson combined for 10 draws.
             
Tara Prosak stopped five Hartwick shots in the opening 43:40 for Naz. Shelby Robinson made one save in the final 16:20. Hartwick's April Hargy (Edgartown, MA/Martha's Vineyard) played the opening 4:06 in the Hawks' cage.
           
Hartwick closes out its home schedule tomorrow against St. John Fisher at 1 p.m. The Hawks' senior class will be recognized in a ceremony prior to the contest.
