ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick's volleyball team dropped its first two matches of the season on Friday at the Oneonta State Invitational at Dewar Arena. The Hawks lost three games to one to Kean University, 13-25, 25-21, 18-25, 18-25, in their opener. 'Wick fell in three sets to Potsdam, 18-25, 21-25, 17-25, in its second match.
Against the Kean Cougars, the Hawks recovered from a slow start after dropping the first game, 25-13. Hartwick came back to take game two, 25-21, to even the match. The Cougars would take the final two games by identical scores of 25-18.
Sophomore
Hannah Strom (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) registered 13 of the Hawks 25 kills in the match. She would add six digs. Freshman
Hannah Armstrong (Lansing, NY/Lansing) dished out 18 assists in her first collegiate match.
Alyssa Zeitler (Chardon, OH) notched 11 digs in her first match in a Hartwick uniform, while
Christina Vitale (Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. John the Baptist) contributed eight.
Strom added six kills and four digs in the match against Potsdam. Armstrong added 15 assists and six digs. Vitale chipped in eight digs.
Dana Martin (Chester, NY/Burke Catholic) and Zeitler each had seven digs with Armstrong finishing the match with six.
Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith) ended with four kills.
The Hawks continue play tomorrow at the Oneonta Invitational. They play Emmanuel (MA) at 10 a.m. and wrap up play against St. Lawrence.
