Hawks Beaten in Two Matches to Wrap up Oneonta Invitational

ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick volleyball team finished play at the Oneonta State Invitational on Saturday at Dewar Arena. The Hawks dropped matches to Emmanuel (MA) and St. Lawrence to close play 0-4 at the event.

'Wick split the first two games against Emmanuel. The Saints took the first game, 25-22, before Hartwick evened the match, 25-20, in the second. Emmanuel pulled away in the final two games, 25-17 in game three, and 25-16 in game four for the 3-1 win.

Hartwick had three players - Hannah Armstrong (Lansing, NY/Lansing), Mary Beth DeCuyke (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown), and Ashlynn Mohan (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) hit over .333 for the match. Armstrong hit .385 with six kills, DeCuyke hit .357 and tied for a team-high eight kills, and Mohan hit .333 and recorded seven kills.

Dana Martin (Chester, NY/Burke Catholic) also had eight kills, Hannah Strom (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) contributed seven, and Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith) notched six.

Armstrong would register a double-double with 30 assists and 13 digs in the match. Strom had a game-high 17 digs and Christina Vitale (Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. John the Baptist) added 12. Vonasek had six blocks.

In the second match against St. Lawrence, the Hawks fell 25-17 and 25-9 in the opening two games. They battled the Saints in the third set, but fell two points short, 26-24.

Strom had the team-high in kills with six. Quincy Kinzel (Scotia, NY/Guilderland) chipped in with five. Alyssa Zeitler (Chardon, OH/Berkshire) recorded 13 digs.

Hartwick is back in action nexet weekend at the Nazareth College Golden Flyer Invitational.
