SCHENECTADY, NY – Hartwick squared off against Cortland and the host Dutchwomen at the Union College Invitational on Friday, but fell in both matches. The Hawks lost in three games to the Red Dragons, 22-25, 9-25, 15-25. They dropped a three-game match to Union in the nightcap, 9-25, 14-25, 24-16.
The Hawks played well in the first game against Cortland (5-5) as the Red Dragons slipped by them by just three points. Cortland would play a dominant second set and best the Hawks by 10 points in the deciding game.

Hannah Strom (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) led Hartwick with seven kills in the match with classmate
Mary Beth DeCuyke (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) contributing five. Strom also accumulated 14 digs and
Dana Martin (Chester, NY/Burke Catholic) and
Christina Vitale (Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. John the Baptist) added 10 apiece.
Cortland's Kim Givelechian led all players with 15 kills. Ava Hintz chipped in with 11. Melanie McGuirk led the defense with 21 digs.
'Wick started slow against the hosts before coming on late. The Dutchwomen allowed only 23 Hartwick points over the first two games. The Hawks battled in the third game as they were tied with Union 24-24. The hosts, however, would get the final two points to take the match.
Martin had seven of the Hawks' 17 kills in the match.
Quincy Kinzel (Scotia, NY/Guilderland) registered 10 assists for the second straight match and Martin (16), Vitale (11), and Strom (10) combined for 37 digs.
Union (7-2) was led by Kelley White and Ally VanDoren who recorded 12 and 11 kills, respectively. VanDoren (13), Marissa Vollmer (11), Kat Moeller (10), and Amanda Price (10) each were in double digits in digs in the contest.
Hartwick (2-9) competes tomorrow during day two of the Union Invitational. The Hawks play Oneonta State and Williams.
