Box Score

ONEONTA, NY- Kylie Thayer (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) scored on a free kick in the 73rd minute and that was all Hartwick needed as the women's soccer team defeated Bard on Wednesday night at Elmore Field. The Hawks, who have now won three in a row, improve to 3-1-2 while the Raptors fall to 2-3-1.

Following a foul on the Raptors, the Hawks were awarded a free kick 20 yards in front of the goal. Thayer calmly hit the shot and the ball sailed into the top left corner of the net to give Hartwick the 1-0 lead and eventual win.

'Wick led the first half in shots 6-1 but could not find the net. On two Thayer corner kicks, one in the 18th minute and the other in the 31st minute, Mary Morrison (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) tried to head the ball in but her shot went high above the goal and out of play.

Early in the second half, the Raptors nearly took the lead when Gina Lewis glanced the ball off of her foot and it bounced off of the goalpost. After Hartwick went ahead, Sylvia Cool hit a shot that was knocked down by Hartwick goalie Hope Brown (Sherburne, NY/Sherburne-Earlville). Later in the 86th minute, Abbey Labreque took a misplayed ball by Morrison and hit a point blank shot that Brown leaped to corral in.

The Hawks finished the contest with a 13-6 advantage in shots. Hartwick also led in corner kicks, 8-2.

Brown picked up her second shutout of the season while turning away three shots. Bard's Kelsey O'Brien stopped five shots for the Raptors.

'Wick enters Empire 8 play on Saturday when they host #9 Ithaca at Elmore Field. Game time will be at 12 p.m.
