Field Hockey Drops Decision at Stevens



ONEONTA, NY – Stevens jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead seven minutes into the game and never looked back in a 7-1 victory over Hartwick in Empire 8 Conference field hockey on Saturday morning at the DeBaun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, NJ.
           
The Ducks held a 3-0 lead at halftime and opened the game up further with four tallies in an 11-minute span in the second half.
           
The Hawks got on the scoreboard with exactly 10 minutes to play on a Maxine Dunn (Peterborough, NH/ConVal) effort. It marked her second tally of the season.
           
Yanna Boggio (Amherst, NY/Amherst) and Jilian Sabatino (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) played in goal for the Hawks. They combined for 10 stops. Lex Richards (Northport, NY/Northport) also had a defensive save for 'Wick.
           
Victoria Alvarez notched the opening two Stevens' goals 1:07 apart. She deflected a shot following a corner to break the ice 5:45 into the match. Erin Silvestri and Dailyn Brook were credited with the assists. Alvarez added her second from in front after a crossing pass from Nicole Prouty.
           
Taylor Welch added to the Ducks' total at the 24-minute mark as she scored near the left post from Silvestri and Brook.
           
The Hawks were led in the first half by Claudia Stone's (Akron, NY/Akron) three shots. All three were on goal but were stopped         by Duck goalkeeper Emily Stukenborg.
           
Welch opened the second-half scoring 5:50 into the period. She deflected a pass from Angela Bauroth and Stevens was up four. Two minutes, 35 seconds later, Brook would score on a stroke for her team's fifth goal.
           
Jillian Fiebel added a pair of markers 3:50 apart later in the half. Brook would earn her second assist on her second goal.
           
Dunn scored for Hartwick after she got into the circle and fired to the lower left corner past keeper Felicia Heard to close out the day's scoring.
           
The Hawks host Union on Tuesday in a non-conference game at Wright Stadium. Game time is 4 p.m.
