ONEONTA, NY- The duo of
Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack) and
Kia Ference (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) combined for nine goals to lead the Hartwick women's lacrosse team to a dominating 16-5 victory over Cazenovia on Wednesday afternoon at Wright Stadium. A total of eight Hawk players scored in the game.
The win gives Hartwick an overall record of 4-3. The Wildcats fall to 0-2.
Rosenberg tallied five scores on the day while Ference totaled four goals.
Meagan Wright (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) had a pair of scores.
Emily Jweid (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) scored one time and assisted on three goals.
Meg Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) chipped in a goal and a helper.
Lisa Littleton (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown),
Ali Sisco (Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick), and
Megan Young (Gansevoort, NY/Schuylerville) also got into the scoring column.
It was 5-0 Hartwick a little more than 13 minutes into the first half. The Wildcats got on the board on a Kaitlin Sheppard to Jessica Cramer connection at 15:45. The Hawks tacked on goals from Ference and Wright to move ahead 7-1 with 11:20 to play in the half. Cazenovia narrowed the lead to 7-2 on a goal from Sheppard 10 seconds later. A free-position score from Rosenberg and a goal from Luce gave 'Wick a 9-2 advantage at halftime.
The Hawks continued to pour on the offense in the second period with three straight scores within nine minutes of game time. The Wildcats scored at 19:17 and 'Wick scored twice more as the Hawks surged ahead 14-3 with 13:32 left to play. The two teams traded goals in the final 12:10 of the contest.
Sheppard led Cazenovia with three goals and also assisted on a fourth. Cramer and Kim Vrigian both scored one goal apiece. Abigail Kortz stopped eight shots in goal.
Steph Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) picked up the win in goal and turned away five Wildcat shots.
April Hargy (Edgartown, MA/Martha's Vineyard) relieved her in the second half and picked up two saves.
Hartwick led in shots, 35-19, and in ground balls, 32-22. Wright scooped up six ground balls to lead the team.
The Hawks won 14 draw controls to Cazenovia's nine. 'Wick was 4-of-7 in free-position shots with Rosenberg scoring on two opportunities and Wright and Ference converting on one each.
Hartwick returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it open Empire 8 play against Stevens. Game time from Wright Stadium will be at 1 p.m.
