ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick's women's basketball team, following their comeback victory last night against Baruch, will take on nationally eleventh ranked Amherst College today in the NCAA Division III Tournament Second Round at Lambros Arena. Tip is set for 6 p.m. The winner advances to the NCAA "Sweet 16."
Last night,
Brittney Dumas (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow HS) and
Maria Foglia (Rensselaer, NY/Catholic Central HS) combined for 57 points as the Hawks battled back from an 11-point second half deficit to claim their first tournament win in 23 years. Dumas finished with a career-high 34 points, just four short of the Hartwick single game record. She also had 15 rebounds. Foglia scored 23 points and hit 9-of-10 free throws in the contest. She also became the program's record holder for free throws made with 471.
The Hawks are making just their third appearance in the NCAA Second Round in program history today. 'Wick is 0-2 in the two prior trips.
Hartwick and Amherst have never met prior to tonight's game. The Lord Jeffs have participated in the previous five Final Fours. They won the 2011 national championship.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Children under five and Hartwick students with valid College ID will receive free admission.
