Box Score

ROCHESTER, NY- Host Nazareth College scored seven of the game's last eight goals over the final 42 minutes of action to defeat Hartwick's women's lacrosse team on Saturday in Empire 8 Conference play. 'Wick slips to 4-8 overall and is still looking for its first conference victory at 0-4.

Senior Ali Sisco (Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) tallied to give Hartwick its only lead of the game, 4-3, with 7:31 left in the first half, but Naz evened the score three minutes later and took the lead for good 26 seconds from halftime. The Golden Flyers scored the first three goals of the second half to get some breathing room. The Hawks got one back, but the hosts recorded the final two goals of the day for the win.

Sisco ended the afternoon with a team-best three goals. Goalkeeper Steph Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) helped keep the Hawks close as she registered 15 saves. She also tied defender Caroline Stanford (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) with a game-best six ground balls. Emily Jweid (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) had a game-high four draw controls.

After nearly five minutes of scoreless action, the two teams traded goals as Naz's Brianna Mancini found the net at 25:10 and Sisco answered 11 seconds later in the first half. Over the next seven minutes, the Flyers held a 5-0 edge in shots. Brooke Sullivan gave Naz the lead with back-to-back goals at 20:35 and 17:46.

Later, Nazareth missed opportunities to increase the lead further in a two and a half minute span as Mancini and Carly Gates both were frustrated by the post. Hartwick countered at the other end as Sisco beat Flyer goalie Tara Prosak with 12 and a half minutes left before half.  Kia Ference (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) picked up the assist.

Just over two minutes later, Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack) tallied on a free-position shot and the game was tied at 3-3. With a player advantage, the Hawks then took the lead at 7:31 as Sisco finished off a free-position goal.

The 'Wick lead lasted two minutes and 58 seconds until Amy McIntosh scored off a feed from Kelsey McNaboe 4:33 from halftime. After both teams had scoring chances over the next three and a half minutes, Gates broke through with just 26 ticks left on the clock and the hosts went into the break up by a count of 5-4.

Naz took the first four shots of the second half, but Luce turned away all three which were on target. Rosenberg had a chance to even the contest for Hartwick but she had a shot ricochet off the post.

The hosts began to pull away as they would find the net three times over a 4:55 span to open up an 8-4 lead. McNaboe recorded Naz's sixth goal at the 22:35 mark and Kate Rothrock added a free-position goal exactly two minutes later. Gabrielle Charles tacked on the Flyers' eighth goal with 17:32 remaining in the game.

The contest stayed 8-4 for nearly the next 11 minutes. The two teams combined for eight shots over the span with the Hawks recording three. Jweid finally got one past Prosak with just 4:37 on the clock.

Before the Hawks even had a chance to trim the Naz lead to two, the Flyers won the draw and Suzie Gray scored to make it a four-goal game once again. Sullivan closed out the scoring with 2:29 remaining for the final 10-5 score line.

Sisco would contribute three ground balls in the game for Hartwick. Rosenberg, Ference, Meagan Wright (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac), and Kiersten Racela (Latham, NY/Shaker) each had two. Wright also picked up three draws and caused two turnovers. Stanford and Ference would also force two Golden Flyer turnovers.

Hartwick is off for the next week until it hosts Houghton College at Wright Stadium on Saturday, April 12. Game time is 3 p.m.
