Volleyball Improves to 3-1 With Sweep of Curry, Mt. St. Mary

Quincy Kinzel earned All-Tournament honors at the Oneonta Invitational Saturday.

ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick volleyball wrapped up play at the Oneonta Invitational on Saturday with a pair of victories over Curry and Mount Saint Mary. The Hawks, now winners of three straight, improve to 3-1 on the season.
           
'Wick began the day with a resounding win over the Colonels from Curry College. The Hawks won each set by a large margin, 25-14, 25-11, 25-16.
             
Sophomore Hannah Armstrong (Lansing, NY/Lansing) paced Hartwick with 10 kills in the match. She totaled just one error in 16 attacks for a hitting percentage of .562 while adding three aces, two digs, and two blocks.
           
Freshman Kayla Baril (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk) contributed six kills and senior Dana Martin (Chester, NY/Burke Catholic) added five. Sophomore Quincy Kinzel (Scotia, NY/Guilderland) had 23 assists and registered a match-high five aces.
           
Curry, which only managed 10 kills in the match, received six from Nicole Grambley.
           
The Hawks had a more difficult time with Mount Saint Mary, but shook the Knights off in four sets. The two teams split the first two sets with the Hawks taking the first 25-16 and the Knights evening the match in the second by a score of 25-19. 'Wick took the match with identical 25-22 sets, respectively, in the third and fourth.
           
Martin registered a team-high 13 kills for Hartwick. She added 13 digs. Junior Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith) chipped in with six kills and had a match-high five aces.
           
Baril recorded six kills and seven digs. Armstrong and junior Mary Beth DeCuyke (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) each had five kills. Sophomore Alyssa Zeitler (Chardon, OH/Berkshire) contributed a match-high 16 digs.
           
Kinzel, who was selected to the Oneonta Invitational All-Tournament Team, delivered 31 assists, 12 digs, and a trio of service aces. She finished the two-day tournament with 103 assists.
           
Mount Saint Mary received a total of 29 kills from Kayla Kurka and Rachel Sabatini. Chelsea Barberan accumulated 36 digs with Kaitlin O'Brien adding 21.
           
Next weekend, the Hawks play at the Nazareth College Invitational. 'Wick opens play with Fredonia State and Buffalo State on Friday.
