Volleyball Splits at Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ – Hartwick volleyball dropped its Empire 8 Conference opener in three sets on Saturday but rebounded with a come from behind five-set victory over Kean University. The Hawks overall record now stands at 4-7 overall.
           
The Ducks defeated the Hawks in match number one 25-13, 25-13, and 25-18. Sophomore Quincy Kinzel (Scotia, NY/Guilderland) registered 17 assists and she tied for a team-high with seven digs. Alyssa Zeitler (Chardon, OH/Berkshire) also had seven digs.
           
Mary Tobin led Stevens with 11 kills. Ashley Castillo dished out 30 assists and Sydni Horner recorded 15 digs.
           
Against the Cougars in their second match, the Hawks fell behind two sets, 25-14, 25-13. The Hawks battled back to take the third 25-19 and the fourth 25-20 to force a deciding set to 15 points, 'Wick would prevail by a final count of 15-12 to take the match and get their fourth win of the campaign.
           
Hannah Armstrong (Lansing, NY/Lansing) tied for a match-high with 11 kills. Dana Martin (Chester, NY/Burke Catholic) contributed eight. Zeitler and Kinzel each had nine digs, Armstrong added eight, and Martin notched seven. Kinzel also secured 17 assists for 'Wick.
           
Hartwick returns to action on Wednesday. The Hawks travel to The Sage Colleges as they search for win number five.
