Box Score 2 ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick's women's volleyball team hosted an Empire 8 Crossover on Saturday at Lambros Arena. The Hawks lost both of their matches to Ithaca and St. John Fisher three sets to none.
In their opening match, the Bombers won the opening set 25-22. The Hawks responded in the second set, leading for virtually the whole way. Hartwick led 24-21 and was just a point from evening the match, but Ithaca would earn six of the next seven points to outlast the Hawks, 27-25, and take a two-set advantage. The Bombers would close out the win in the third 25-12.
Mary Beth DeCuyke (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) led Hartwick with 10 kills.
Quincy Kinzel (Scotia, NY/Guilderland) distributed 25 assists.
Alyssa Zeitler (Chardon, OH/Berkshire) had a team-high 14 digs.
Dana Martin (Chester, NY/Burke Catholic) and
Hannah Armstrong (Lansing, NY/Lansing) each added nine digs. Kinzel added eight and
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) contributed seven.
Ithaca received 11 kills from Rylie Bean. Joelle Goldstein recorded 10. Kayla Gromen registered match-highs of 30 assists and 23 digs. Maggie Mutschler added 14 digs.
Against the Cardinals of St. John Fisher, the Hawks would fall 25-21, 25-15, 25-20.
Martin and Kinzel each had five kills. Kinzel added 14 assists and eight digs. Zeitler notched 14 digs with Werner contributing eight and Martin adding seven.
Madison Karwas and Paige Wilson combined for 19 kills for Fisher. Erica Strickler and Brooke Meader combined for 36 assists. Katie Mazierski earned 23 digs.
The Hawks look for their first Empire 8 win on Tuesday when they host Utica at Lambros Arena at 7 p.m.
