WASHINGTON, PA – Host Washington and Jefferson College scored two goals in each half to defeat Hartwick's field hockey team 4-0 on Saturday in an Empire 8 contest.
Amanda Steffey paced the Presidents with three goals on the day. Following a goal by Claire Shaak 10:26 into the match, Steffey tallied the final three goals to help earn the victory.
Steffey increased the margin to two with her first goal of the day less than nine minutes before halftime. She added her third 8:53 into the second half and closed out the scoring with just 22 seconds remaining.
Claudia Stone (Akron, NY/Akron) would register the Hawks' lone shot on the day. Junior goalkeepers
Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) and
Jilian Sabatino (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) combined to make eight saves in the 'Wick cage. Carter stopped six shots in the opening 43:57 with Sabatino making two saves in the final 26:03.
Hartwick (4-8, 1-5 E8) next plays on Saturday, October 24 on the road at Nazareth. Start time is 1 p.m.
