ROCHESTER, NY – Hartwick led in the first half but the host Golden Flyers tied it later in the period and scored the game-winner with less than 15 minutes left in a 3-2 win Saturday in Rochester. The Hawks slip to 4-9 overall and 1-6 in Empire 8 play. The Flyers improve to 8-9 and 4-4.
Catherine Willard gave Nazareth a quick start as she tallied 3:46 into the game. Cathy Stahl and Kailee Coleman earned assists on the play as Willard scored her 13
th goal of the season.
Hartwick answered just under 11 minutes later. The Hawks' top goal scorer this season,
Sarah Ryan (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs), found the net for the eighth time to even the match at the 14:29 mark.
Five minutes, seven seconds later, the Hawks were in front as
Claudia Stone (Akron, NY/Akron) scored her third goal of the year for a 2-1 'Wick advantage.
The lead would last for 12:25 until Willard struck again for the Golden Flyers and the game reached halftime tied 2-2.
The score remained deadlocked for the opening 20:32 of the second half until Kristina Back put Naz in front to stay with 14:28 remaining in the game. The Hawks had one more shot the rest of the way by
Catie Kondi (Canaan, NH/Mascoma Valley Regional), but it was blocked by a Naz defender with 6:23 left.
The Golden Flyers led the Hawks in shots by a 14-8 margin. They also had more penalty corners in the contest, 10-5.
Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) made five saves for Hartwick on the day. Lauren Devine stopped three 'Wick shots.
Hartwick plays in a non-conference game at Wells College tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m. The Hawks wrap up the regular season on Saturday, October 31 at home against Utica.
