ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick trailed 1-0 in the second half, but three unanswered goals in a 17-minute span pushed the Hawks past visiting Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday at Wright Stadium. The victory is the first in the Empire 8 Conference this season for the Hawks as they up their overall season mark to 3-6. It also snaps a seven-game winless streak against the Ducks which began in 2008.
Stevens opened up the scoring at the 25:14 mark as Regan Littell's centering pass was put in by Dailyn Brook for her eighth tally of the season.
Eleven minutes, 55 seconds into the second half, the Hawks evened the match. A shot from
Rebecca Reilly (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) was stopped by Ducks goalkeeper Emily Stukenborg but
Mikaelan Stuligross (Walton, NY/Walton) was on the doorstep to finish off the rebound to tie the score.
Just under 10 minutes later, 'Wick leapt in front as
Sarah Ryan (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) scored on a rebound of a
Courtney Coons (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls) shot with less than 13 minutes remaining.
Sophomore
Catie Kondi (Canaan, NH/Mascoma Valley Regional) provided some insurance for the Hawks. She took a Stuligross and drilled a low shot past Stukenborg for a 3-1 lead with 5:51 left to ensure the Hartwick win.
Hartwick fought off 18 Stevens' penalty corners in the game.
Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) stopped 14 shots for the Hawks in goal. Stukenborg finished with five saves.
The Hawks travel to Schenectady on Tuesday for their next contest. They play at Union College beginning at 6 p.m.
