PITTSFORD, NY – Host St. John Fisher out-scored Hartwick 5-0 in the first quarter and came away with an 11-2 victory in Empire 8 Conference men's lacrosse on Saturday in Pittsford, NY.
The Hawks received goals from
Evan Petillo (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) and
Sean Brown (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) in the game.
Conner Long (Hardwick, NJ/Blair Academy) and
Cody Petillo (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) picked up assists.
The Cardinals scored the game's first goal 2:14 into the contest on a Matthew Condon strike to take a 1-0 lead. The Hawks had two shots on goal over the next three minutes with a chance to tie, including a
Cody Petillo shot that rang off the post, but Fisher would get the game's next tally at 8:07 for a 2-0 advantage.
The Cardinals would surge ahead with three more goals in a 2:04 span of the first quarter to take a 5-0 lead after 15 minutes.
Hartwick broke through 7:16 into the second quarter on
Evan Petillo's second goal of the season. His brother, Cody, notched the assist. Condon answered for Fisher 31 seconds later to make it a 6-1 game before Brown scored his third of the year on the man-up with Long earning the assist.
St. John Fisher made it a six-goal contest with two tallies within 23 seconds of one another in the third quarter. The Cardinals added another three scores in a 3:03 span of the fourth for the final 11-2 margin.
Mike Rourke (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) made 12 saves in the Hawks' cage on the day.
Kevin Wahl (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) grabbed a team-high four ground balls and added a caused turnover for 'Wick.
Kyle Kickel (West Islip, NY/West Islip) earned three ground balls and he tied for a game-high with three caused turnovers.
David Bianculli (Charlton, MA/Shepard Hill Regional) contributed three ground balls and he caused a pair of Fisher turnovers.
St. John Fisher was led by Condon's five goals. Dante Giordano added a pair of tallies and an assist. Ricky Barton registered a game-high eight ground balls. Tanner Sawn, Zach Knight, and Justin Townsend combined for eight saves in the Cardinal goal.
The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, April 1. The Hawks play at Stevens in another Empire 8 match beginning at 4 p.m. in Hoboken, NJ.
