ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick registered all of its scoring in the first three quarters in a dominating performance against visiting Houghton College Wednesday at Wright Stadium. The Hawks rolled to a 20-3 win over the Highlanders, which is also marks the Hawks' third straight victory.
Hartwick is now 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the Empire 8 Conference. Houghton falls to 1-10 and 0-6.
Thirteen different players recorded at least a point in the game.
Roy Simmons (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville Manlius) and
Jacob Sasche (Baltimore, MD/Boys' Latin School of MD) combined for half of the Hawks' goals. Simmons scored a career-high six goals with Sasche adding a career-best four tallies.
Pat Robinson (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) contributed three goals for 'Wick.
Brendan Dieck (Lafayette Hill, PA/Delaware Valley Friends) added two goals and two assists, and
Adam Goss (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) chipped in with two goals.
The Hawks had big advantages in shots (56-21) and ground balls (54-16). They also won all 14 of the first half face-offs.
'Wick would lead by a 12-0 margin at halftime. Simmons scored four times in the opening 30 minutes with Sasche adding three goals. Goss,
Sean Brown (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville),
Evan Petillo (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North), Dieck, Sasche, and Simmons netted the first six goals for the Hawks in the first quarter. Simmons' second of the game made it 7-0 Hartwick after one quarter.
Sasche tallied the first two goals of the second period followed by a Robinson tally. It marked Robinson's first goal in a Hartwick uniform. Simmons tacked on another two goals to close out the half.
The Highlanders got on the scoreboard 36 seconds into the third period. Robinson, Sasche and Simmons answered for 'Wick for a 15-1 lead. Houghton scored its second of the game at 6:54, but the Hawks adding five more goals in a 4:18 span for a 20-2 lead after three quarters. Robinson, Goss, Simmons, Dieck, and
David Bianculli (Charlton, MA/Shepard Hill Regional) recorded the Hartwick goals.
In the fourth with the game in hand, the Hawks pulled back the offense. Houghton's Justin Flint scored his second goal of the game for the period's lone tally.
David Hajduk (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) dished out a pair of assists in the game. Petillo, Brown, Simmons,
Conner Long (Hardwick, NJ/Blair Academy),
Matt McCallan (Bay Shore, NY/West Islip), and
Geoff Baptiste (North Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) each had one helper.
Connor Hudson (Moriches, NY/William Floyd) was perfect in the circle with 14 face-off wins. He also registered a game- and career-high 13 ground balls. Robinson added six ground balls and Simmons grabbed four.
Baptiste,
Kevin Rourke (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach), and
Tanner Patterson (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) each registered three caused turnovers for the Hawks.
Mike Rourke (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) and
Sam Nowak (Lockport, NY/Lockport) combined for six saves in cage. Rourke stopped five in the first half. Nowak made one stop in the second.
Hartwick travels to #17 Ithaca on Saturday. Game time is slated for 12 p.m.
