’Wick Men’s Lacrosse Team Stopped by #17 Ithaca

ITHACA, NY – Hartwick had its three-game winning streak halted on Saturday with a 23-8 loss to nationally seventeenth ranked Ithaca at Higgins Stadium. The Bombers jumped out to a 6-0 lead 11 and a half minutes into the game and they never looked back in the victory.
           
With the result, Hartwick falls to 3-8 overall and 2-5 in the Empire 8. The Bombers improve to 10-4 and 5-1.
           
David Bianculli (Charlton, MA/Shepard Hill Regional) led Hartwick with two goals and an assist. Matt McCallan (Bay Shore, NY/West Islip) contributed a pair of goals, and Roy Simmons (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville Manlius) notched a goal and two assists for the Hawks.
           
Hartwick registered five of the first eight goals of the second half. Bianculli, Adam Goss (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt), Simmons, Conner Long (Hardwick, NJ/Blair Academy), and McCallan picked up the 'Wick goals. Cody Petillo (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) closed out the Hawks' scoring with 56 seconds left in the contest.
           
Kevin Rourke (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) recorded a game- and career-high five caused turnovers for Hartwick. He also tied with Kevin Wahl (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) for a team-best with six ground balls.
           
Kyle Kickel (West Islip, NY/West Islip) added five ground balls and Tanner Patterson (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) chipped in with four. Mike Rourke (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) made 15 saves in goals for 'Wick.
           
Jake Shumway led Ithaca with four goals and an assist on the day. Eli Gobrecht and Kaelan Fitzpatrick each added three scores for the Bombers. Scott Sidnam and Jack Deragon combined for seven saves in the goal.
           
The Hawks next play in their final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday, April 22. Hartwick travels up the road for a match with cross-city rival Oneonta State beginning at 4 p.m.
