ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick fell on the road to cross-city rival SUNY Oneonta on Wednesday by a final count of 15-7. The Red Dragons used a nine-goal run in the second and third quarters to pull away for the win.
Matt McCallan (Bay Shore, NY/West Islip) led the 'Wick offense with a pair of goals and an assist.
Roy Simmons (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville Manlius) chipped in with two goals and
Cody Petillo (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) contributed a goal and one helper.
Oneonta scored twice in the first 1:42 for a quick two-goal lead.
Evan Petillo (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) scored for the Hawks with 7:52 left in the first to trim the margin to one, but the Red Dragons added two scores 41 seconds apart to up their lead to 4-1. They added their fifth before Simmons registered his 13
th of the season for a 5-2 Hartwick deficit after 15 minutes.
Oneonta scored all three goals in the second period for an 8-2 advantage at halftime. The hosts would score the first six goals of the third period to open up the game.
Hartwick finished the night with five of the last six goals. Simmons scored from McCallan to close the third quarter.
Sean Brown (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) then set up McCallan to open the fourth quarter.
Cody Petillo,
David Bianculli (Charlton, MA/Shepard Hill Regional), and McCallan ended the day's scoring with under three and a half minutes to go in the contest.
Connor Hudson (Moriches, NY/William Floyd) and
Tanner Patterson (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) earned the team-high in ground balls for the Hawks with four apiece.
Kevin Rourke (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) added three ground balls.
Matt Bytner (Albany, NY/South Colonie),
Cody Petillo, and Brown each caused two turnovers for the Hawks in the game.
Mike Rourke (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) played all sixty minutes in the Hawks' cage. He made a season-high 17 saves.
SUNY Oneonta (6-7) was led by Brandon Hickey's three goals. Nathan Doody, Steven DeLisle, Austin McAskill, Devon Casey, and Alec Solomito each had two.
With the result, the Hawks fall to 20-13 against the Red Dragons in the all-time series.
Hartwick (3-9) closes out its regular season on Saturday, April 25 at home against Alfred. The opening face-off is slated for 1 p.m.
