BROCKPORT, NY – Hartwick opened the day's scoring in the first quarter, but 35 unanswered points from Brockport propelled the Golden Eagles to a 35-14 win on Saturday. The game was the Empire 8 Conference opener for both squads. The Hawks slip to 2-1 o the season with the result. Brockport improves to 2-0.

John Garcia (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) one-yard touchdown run capped an eight-play 91-yard drive for the Hawks with 5:19 left in the first quarter. A
Korey Jubie (Kingston, NY/Kingston) extra point gave 'Wick a 7-0 lead. Garcia connected with wide receiver
Tanner Williams (Eagle Bridge, NY/Hoosick Falls) for a 41-yard reception to highlight the drive.
Brockport answered on its next possession, scoring on a Dan Andrews' 15-yard run. The Golden Eagles took the lead for good at 9:42 of the second quarter on a Wayne Bonsell to Jerry Thompson 21-yard touchdown pass.
The Hawks only trailed by seven at the half, but following a 39-yard kickoff return to start the third, Brockport marched 57 yards on five plays and a Nate Tyler 20-yard touchdown pass put the Golden Eagles up 21-7.
Later in the quarter, the Hawks drove to the Brockport 32 but an interception gave the ball back to Brockport. The Golden Eagles capitalized on an Andrews' 46-yard run to the end zone to increase their lead to 28-7.
Brockport added another score early in the fourth quarter to make it a 35-7 game. Hartwick's
Billy Pine (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) hooked up with wide receiver
Brad Garcia (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) for a 42-yard touchdown with under two minutes left to close out the scoring.
Hartwick accumulated 413 yards of offense on the day. The Golden Eagles registered 494.
Tito Pichardo (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) rushed for 94 yards on 16 carries for the Hawks.
John Garcia threw for 263 yards on 18 completions.
Brad Garcia caught eight passes for 142 yards and Williams finished with six receptions for 98 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Matthew Ali (Sayville, NY/Sayville) led Hartwick with 10 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for a loss. He also forced a fumble.
Nick Sorrenti (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) added nine hits, including 2.5 tackles for a loss.
Chris Mercieca (Centereach, NY/Centereach) contributed seven tackles and
Mark Hackett (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls) and
Sal Levanti (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) each had six.
Hartwick has a bye week before returning to the field on October 3 at Cortland. The Hawks and Red Dragons kick off at 1 p.m.
