BROCKPORT, NY – Hartwick field hockey rolled to a 4-0 shutout win over host SUNY Brockport on Saturday to improve to 2-3 on the season. The Hawks are winners of two straight games.
Four different Hawks found the goal on the day and
Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) and
Laura Downey (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) combined for a three-save shutout.
Mikaelan Stuligross (Walton, NY/Walton) picked up the game-winning tally 8:27 into the contest. She scored following a scramble in front of the Brockport cage for her first goal of the season.
Courtney Coons (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls) recorded her first collegiate goal just over 11 minutes later to give the Hawks a two-goal cushion. She tipped in a shot from
Catie Kondi (Canaan, NH/Mascoma Valley Regional) at 19:48.
The Hawks weren't done in the first half as they picked up their third of the game inside 23 minutes.
Sarah Ryan (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season at the 22:40 mark as the Hawks increased their advantage.
Rebecca Reilly (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) got the game's final goal with 5:36 left on the game clock. It was her second tally of the season.
Hartwick out-shot its opponents by a wide margin, 20-6. They earned 18 penalty corners to the Golden Eagles' six.
Carter played the first 68 and a half minutes making three stops. Downey relieved her for the final 1:35.
The Hawks open up Empire 8 Conference play on Wednesday when they travel to Ithaca College for a 4 p.m. start.
