SCHENECTADY, NY – Hartwick was less than three minutes away from earning a hard-fought draw at Union College on Saturday but a Dutchwomen goal in the 108
th minute gave the hosts a 1-0 victory instead. The loss drops the Hawks from the unbeaten ranks. They fall to 6-1 overall.
Breana Derella got the game-winner for the Dutchwomen off a Jessica Farland cross. Farland's service was one-timed by Derella past Hartwick goalkeeper
Megan McGillycuddy (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) for the clincher.
McGillycuddy would finish the game with a season- and career-high nine saves. Erica Matteo made five stops for Union.
Five of the Hawks' nine shots in the contest were on target.
Allyson Daniels (Pembroke, NH/Academy) fired two shots on goal to lead Hartwick.
Sierra Bentley (Worcester, NY/Schenevus),
Hanna Konash (Stowe, MA/Nashoba Regional), and
Allie Ricci (Millstone, NJ/Saint John Vianney) each had one.
Hartwick opens up Empire 8 Conference play on Tuesday, September 22 at Utica. The Hawks and Pioneers kickoff at 7 p.m. at Charles Gaetano Stadium.
