Box Score 2 CORTLAND, NY – Hartwick split on its last day of competition at the Cortland Red Dragon Invitational on Saturday. The Hawks opened with their first victory of the 2015 season, 3-2, over Wells College. 'Wick then dropped a 3-1 match to the Buffalo State Bengals.
Against the Express, the Hawks dropped the opening set, 25-17, before responding to take the second and third by scores of 27-25 and 25-23 to take a 2-1 lead. After Wells evened the match in the fourth set, the Hawks came through 15-12 for the win.
Kayla Baril (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk), who had a pair of double-doubles on the day, registered a team-high 14 kills to go along with 17 digs.
Hannah Armstrong (Lansing, NY/Lansing) added nine kills and 15 digs.
Alyssa Zeitler (Chardon, OH/Chardon) was the defensive standout with a team-best 25 digs.
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) added 12 digs for the Hawks.
Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith) chipped in with eight kills.
Rosa Maun (Redstone, CO/Roaring Fork) also had seven.
Jamie Reidy (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) delivered 22 assists.
Against Buffalo State, the Hawks were able to cut a 2-0 deficit in half with a 25-21 win in set number three. The Bengals, however, would take the win after a 25-15 showing in the fourth set.
Zeitler added another 28 digs to finish the day with 53. Baril recorded her second double-double with a team-high 12 kills and 14 digs.
Rachel Griffing (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) had 10 digs with Reidy securing the team-high in assists with 18.
Baril would be named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts over the weekend.
The Hawks are off until next weekend when they play in the Nazareth Golden Flyer Invitational. 'Wick opens with matches against Brockport and Hilbert on Friday, September 12.
