ONEONTA, NY – On Saturday at Moyer Pool, Hartwick hosted teams from St. Rose, Cazenovia and Utica. Both the men and women's swimming teams registered victories against each of their opponents.
The men topped Utica 236-51, beat St. Rose 188-99 and defeated Cazenovia 242-16.
The women dominated Utica 244-44, edged St. Rose 148.50-139.50, and controlled Cazenovia, 246-42.
Senior
Brendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) finished in front on the men's side gathering three first-place individual wins including the 200-yard butterfly, 500-yard freestyle, and 1000-yard freestyle. He was also a part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team which was victorious.
Freshman
Olivia Bart (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) and classmate
Bailey DeSanto (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) tabbed the most first-place victories for the 'Wick women. Bart claimed top finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relay while DeSanto snagged her honors in 1-meter diving and 3-meter diving events.
Hartwick finished in first in the 200-yard medley relay with sophomore
Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical), senior
Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield), first-year
Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) and junior
David Mauro (Queensbury, NY/Glens Falls) securing a time of 1:38.55.
The 1000-yard freestyle event saw Quinn come in first at 9:59.17.
Zhang tabbed another first-place win, this time in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.89) and in the 200-yard IM (2:00.60).
Senior
Zane Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) added to Hartwick's win total in the 100-yard backstroke where he finished with a time of 55:92. He also took top honors in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.39).
For the 50-yard freestyle, Mulvehill's time of 22:07 slotted him first in the event.
Freshman
Brandon Andrews (Rockville, MD/Rockville) earned 206.40 total points in the 1-meter diving event to secure first place and 219.80 to do the same in the 3-meter diving segment.
The group of Mulvehill, Edmister, Grunewald and Quinn earned the top finish in the final event of the day, the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:21.43).
On the women's side, in the 1000-yard freestyle, freshman
Channing Lewis (Canton, OH/Canton McKinley) topped her opponents with the time of 11:27.10.
In the 200-yard butterfly, first-year
Emma Reining (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) nabbed the victory in 2:21.59.
The group of Reining, Bart, senior
Rachel Bellis (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) and junior
Maddy Hayes (Eagan, MN/Eagan) secured a top spot in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:49.36). Entering the event, both Hartwick and St. Rose were tied at 135 total points. The win awarded the Hawks the edge they needed to take first-place honors.
Next, 'Wick's swimming and diving teams travel to Rochester on October 29
th for a 1 p.m. meet time.
