ONEONTA, NY – On Saturday afternoon, the Hartwick men's and women's swimming and diving teams both came away with victories against Nazareth College at Moyer Pool. The men dominated the Golden Flyers, 195-96. The women defeated their foe, 173-126.
The men were led by seniors
Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield) and
Brendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) who registered four first-place finishes. The women were paced by junior
Maddy Hayes' (Eagan, MN/Eagan) four victories.
Sophomore
Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical), Mulvehill, freshman
Ryan McLoughlin (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) and senior
Zane Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:38.43.
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Quinn (9:59.52), senior
Chris Farrell ( Charlotte, NC/Rocky River) (10:24.66) and freshman
Isaac Waide (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray) (10:39.08) graced the top three spots, respectively. Quinn also garnered a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with the time of 2:00.22 and 500-yard freestyle in 4.53.12.
Zhang (1:49.64) edged Nazareth's Matt Leverich (1:50.82) for the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle. Zhang also defeated his opponents in the 100-yard butterfly, 54.85.
McLoughlin won the 100-yard breaststroke with the time of 1:00.43. Freshman
Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) (1:02.15) and junior
Joey Moffitt (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) took second and third place finishes, respectively. McLoughlin went on to win the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.83) as well.
Mulvehill took the 50-yard freestyle (21.86) and the 100-yard freestyle (47.83). Grunewald won the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.74).
The group of Quinn, freshman
Zach Skelton (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), Grunewald, and Mulvehill took the first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:21.90).
Hayes won the 200-yard freestyle with the time of 2:02.39, the 50-yard freestyle in 26.05 and the 100-yard freestyle in 56.46 for the women.
Senior
Ally Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) (1:04.48), senior
Gabbie Kiefl (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) (1:06.03) and freshman
Ally Schroeder (Plantsville, CT/Southington) (1:06.68) grabbed the top three honors in the 100-yard backstroke. Agate added another top finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:19.14) and 200 yard IM (2:21.65).
In the 200-yard butterfly, freshman
Victoria Argentieri (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) (2:22.93) won first with freshman
Emma Reining (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) (2:26.15) in second and sophomore
Lauren Cooley (Snohomish, WA/Glacier Peak) (2:32.53) in third.
Reining took a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.31).
The group of sophomore
Taylor Diepold (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury), freshman
Olivia Bart (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern), senior
Rachel Bellis (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy), and Hayes won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:50.42.
Next up, both teams host local rival SUNY Oneonta on November 12
th. The action at Moyer Pool begins at 1 p.m.
