Hawks Drop 9-7 Decision at Misericordia

DALLAS, PA – A 4-0 Misericordia run in the second half was too much to overcome as the Cougars defeated Hartwick's women's lacrosse team 9-7 on Friday. The loss drops the Hawks to 2-2 overall on the season.

Courtney Coons (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls) had a goal and five assists to lead Hartwick. Emma Knapp (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) added two tallies for the Hawks.

Misericordia began the game with three goals in the opening 3:04 of action to grab a quick 3-0 lead. Hartwick tied it with three goals in a 5:02 span with Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack), Abby Letourneau (South Portland, ME/South Portland), and Knapp scoring.

The two teams then traded tallies over the final 9:04 of the half. Knapp gave 'Wick its first lead, 4-3. The Cougars tied it before Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) answered for Hartwick at 1:09. Misericordia knotted the score at 5-5 twenty-three seconds later. Coons assisted on all five scores for the Hawks.

After Megan Young (Gansevoort, NY/Schuylerville) put the Hawks up 2:17 into the second half, 'Wick held its final lead, 6-5. Misericordia would score four times in a 6:46 span to take a 9-6 lead with under eight minutes to play. Coons got the Hawks closer with 7:22 remaining but it would mark the game's final goal.

Hartwick led in shots 17-16 and in ground balls 20-19. Misericordia won 13 of 18 draw controls.

Carleigh Tarala (Tully, NY/Tully) made five saves in the Hartwick goal. She also had five ground balls. Mel Niewender (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park Memorial) registered three ground balls and Rosenberg, Letourneau, and Kaplan each recorded two.
