SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Hartwick fell to 1-1 on the season with a 14-4 setback at Skidmore College on Wednesday evening.
Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack) scored a pair of goals for the Hawks with
Courtney Coons (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls) dishing out two assists.
Megan Young (Gansevoort, NY/Schuylerville) and
Abby Letourneau (South Portland, ME/South Portland) also found the net for 'Wick.
The Thoroughbreds scored the game's first three goals before Letourneau beat Skidmore goalkeeper Megan Kolopsky to trim the gap to two, 3-1. Skidmore got another two goals with under 10 minutes remaining in the half to increase their lead. Rosenberg then tallied off another Coons' feed to make it 5-2.
Skidmore would add four goals in the final 4:35 of the half to grab a 9-2 lead at halftime. The hosts started the second half with a 4-0 run to build a 13-2 advantage.
Young got one back for the Hawks at 19:13 and Rosenberg tallied on a free-position shot with 6:24 left before Skidmore got the final goal of the game.
Skidmore finished the game with a 25-20 edge in shots. The Thoroughbreds held an 18-16 advantage in ground balls and they secured 17 of the game's 20 draws.
Hartwick goalie
Carleigh Tarala (Tully, NY/Tully), who finished the contest with six saves, tied for a game-high with four ground balls. She also caused two turnovers.
Mattie Coffey (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) and
Meagan Wright (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) each added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Tyler Phillips paced Skidmore with four goals and two assists. Gianna Muscari and Cas Szwajkowski registered three goals apiece. Kolopsky (5) and Taylor Goodwill (3) combined to make eight saves.
Hartwick is off for one week until its hosts Morrisville State in its home opener on March 9. Game time is 4 p.m.
