Hawks Fall at Naz in Empire 8 Opener

ROCHESTER, NY – Hartwick's women's lacrosse team was defeated on the road at Nazareth College on Saturday by a final score of 15-3. The game marked the Empire 8 opener for both squads.
           
Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack) scored a pair of goals for the Hawks, who slip to 3-4 overall on the season. The Golden Flyers improve to 5-3 with the win.
           
The Flyers registered the opening three goals of the game in the first 6:05 of action. Emma Knapp (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) then netted her eighth goal of the season with Courtney Coons (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls) assisting. It marked Coons' team-leading nineteenth assist of the year.
           
Nazareth would score four more times to open up a 7-1 advantage with 13:45 left in the half before Rosenberg scored for 'Wick at the 12:39 mark. The Golden Flyers got one more score late in the half to grab an 8-2 edge at halftime.
           
In the second half, Naz scored twice in the opening 2:58. Rosenberg then scored her twenty-fifth goal of the season at 22:45. It would, however, mark the Hawks' final tally of the day. Naz would tally the final five goals of the day over the last 22:03.
           
Rosenberg, goalie Carleigh Tarala (Tully, NY/Tully), and Abby Letourneau (South Portland, ME/South Portland) each tied for a game-high with three ground balls for 'Wick. Tarala would also cause two turnovers and make five saves in net.
           
Mattie Coffey (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) would secure a game-high three caused turnovers in the contest.
           
Gabbie Charles, Nicole DeVona, and Suzie Gray would each score three goals for Nazareth on the day.
           
The Golden Flyers held a 24-18 edge in shots in the game. They also had 19 ground balls to the Hawks' 16.
           
Hartwick next plays on Wednesday, March 30 at home against SUNY Oneonta. Game time is 6 p.m.
