ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick was less than 12 minutes away from its first victory over SUNY Oneonta since 2006, but the Red Dragons rallied for the final three goals of the game to escape Wright Stadium with a 7-6 win. The Hawks led for just under 39 minutes of action before the late Oneonta run.
The Hawks fall to 3-5 overall with the setback. The Red Dragons improve to 3-4.
Hartwick played a strong first half in which it out-shot the visitors by a 17-13 margin en route to a 5-4 lead at the break. The Hawks grabbed the advantage at the 24:27 mark on a
Jessie Matt (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) goal from
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties). The lead was doubled 29 seconds later as
Abby Letourneau (South Portland, ME/South Portland) scored from
Courtney Coons (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls).
Oneonta answered with a three-goal run in a 3:24 span to take its first lead of the game, 3-2.
Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack) tied the score at 18:07, and Letourneau put the Hawks in front 48 seconds later. 'Wick would hold the lead for the next 35:49 of action.
Werner tallied from Rosenberg at 12:23 to give the Hawks a 5-3 edge before Oneonta scored at 8:20 to close the gap to one at halftime.
Matt scored her second of the game with Rosenberg assisting and the Hawks increased their margin to 6-4 with 17:08 remaining in the contest.
Oneonta inched closer at 13:50 and evened the game at 6-6 at 11:30. With 6:18 left in the match, Rebecca Fildes scooped up a ground ball in front and fired a shot into the net for the Red Dragons which would prove to be the game-winner.
The Red Dragons won the ensuing draw and stalled for the next two minutes before the Hawks gained possession. 'Wick had one more trip into its offensive zone but turned it over. Oneonta continued to stall before turning it over with 16 seconds left. The Hawks needed to clear, going the full length of the field to get one last crack at the tying goal, but ran out of clock.

Carleigh Tarala (Tully, NY/Tully) made 14 saves in cage. She also grabbed a game-high eight ground balls. Rosenberg contributed six ground balls with Coons adding five.
Letourneau would secure a game-high four draw controls for the Hawks.
Hazel Flores (Brentwood, NY/Brentwood) caused a game-high three turnovers.
Six players scored for Oneonta led by Catherine Clark's two goals. Allison Butler chipped in with a goal and two assists.
Hartwick returns to Empire 8 play on Saturday. The Hawks host Alfred University at Wright Stadium beginning at 1 p.m.
