ONEONTA, NY – Visiting SUNY Oneonta used a five-goal run late in the third quarter and into the fourth to pull away from Hartwick in men's lacrosse on Wednesday at Wright Stadium.
With the result, the Hawks slip to 2-5 on the season. The Red Dragons improve to 4-3.

Conner Long (Hardwick, NJ/Blair Academy) and freshmen
Chris Vaden (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) and
Sam Ferguson (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) each scored a pair of goals to lead the way offensively for Hartwick in the match.
Jake Sachse (Lutherville, MD/Boys' Latin School of MD),
Chris VanDemark (Painted Post, NY/Corning-Painted Post), and
Cody Petillo (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) contributed a goal apiece.
Oneonta jumped in front quickly in the first period, scoring the first four goals of the game in the opening 6:05 of action. Hartwick netted two of the next three goals to end the period with VanDemark and Ferguson tallying. Sachse earned the helper on Ferguson's marker.
The Red Dragons added to their lead with two goals early in the second quarter. The two teams then traded goals over the next six minutes. Vaden netted both 'Wick goals with Long assisting on his second tally. Oneonta scored a goal 47 ticks before halftime and the visitors entered the intermission up 10-4.
Petillo opened the scoring in the third quarter for Hartwick on an assist from
David Bianculli (Charlton, MA/Shepard Hill Regional) to make the score 10-5. The Hawks had the chance to inch closer with a three and a half minute man-advantage but were unable to convert. Later in the quarter, Sachse made it a 10-6 game with a goal at 3:25. The Red Dragons drew one back 1:10 later.
In the fourth period, the Red Dragons scored four times in the opening 5:31 to pull away. Down 15-6, Long scored twice at 7:18 and 2:25. Ferguson closed out the scoring with nine ticks remaining in the contest.
Oneonta out-shot the Hawks by a margin of 42-32 in the game. The Red Dragons also held advantages in ground balls, 39-29, and won 19-of-28 face-offs.
James Vogt (Stratham, NH/Exeter) recorded a team-high four ground balls for the Hawks. Long, goalie
Mike Rourke (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach),
Tanner Patterson (East Longmeadow, MA/East Long Meadow), and
Garrison Wojtas (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) each recorded three. Vogt would also tie for a game-high with a pair of caused turnovers.
Connor O'Brien (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) made four saves in the opening half for the Hawks.
Mike Rourke played the second half and registered seven stops.
SUNY Oneonta received four goals and two assists from Connor Coyle. Matt Miles added three goals and two helpers, and Nathan Doody accumulated three scores and one assist.
Hartwick next plays on Saturday, April 2 at Alfred University in an Empire 8 Conference match which begins at 1 p.m.
