UTICA, NY – Host Utica College used an 8-2 run to close the first half to aid in a 16-6 win over Hartwick's women's lacrosse team on Wednesday night at Charles Gaetano Stadium in Utica. The Hawks slip to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the Empire 8 with the result. The Pioneers are now 9-5 and 4-2.
Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack) led Hartwick with four goals on the evening.
Courtney Coons (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls) added a goal and three assists.
Rosenberg would score the Hawks' first two goals of the game and 'Wick trailed by a count of 3-2 with just under 11 minutes elapsed. Coons would assist both of Rosenberg's tallies.
The Pioneers would net the next five goals to take an 8-2 advantage with 6:12 remaining before halftime. Coons scored at 5:32 off a feed from
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) to cut the lead to five. Utica would then score three of the final four goals of the half for an 11-4 edge at the break.
Emma Knapp (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) picked up the Hawks' goal in the span.
The Pioneers would register three straight goals in the second half before Rosenberg answered with two more goals 16 seconds apart. She now has 39 tallies on the season. UC added the final two goals of the night with under three minutes to play.
Goalkeeper
Carleigh Tarala (Tully, NY/Tully), who stopped 12 shots in the game, led Hartwick with five ground balls on the night.
Sydney Robert (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) contributed three.
Rosenberg and Werner each grabbed three draw controls apiece for the Hawks.
Abby Letourneau (South Portland, ME/South Portland) caused a team-high three turnovers.
Utica received four goals from Brooke Miller and Courtney Wheeler. Rebecca Plunkett contributed three scores.
Hartwick travels to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, April 23. The Hawks and Ducks begin play at 12 p.m.
