Women’s Lax Falls at Stevens Institute of Technology

HOBOKEN, NJLauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack) and Jessie Matt (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) each scored a pair of goals but it wasn't enough as Stevens Institute of Technology defeated Hartwick's women's lacrosse team 16-4 on Saturday at DeBaun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, NJ.
           
The Ducks started the game on an 8-0 run through the opening 22:05. They then netted eight of the game's final nine goals for the victory.
           
The Hawks would net three straight goals in a 1:33 span of the first half to trim their deficit to five, 8-3. Matt scored off a feed from Courtney Coons (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls) to begin the rally. Rosenberg scored one minute later and Matt found the net on a free-position shot. Stevens closed the half with three ore scores for an 11-3 halftime advantage.
           
After the hosts scored three times in the second half, Rosenberg scored Hartwick's final goal of the day at 20:55. Stevens added the final two tallies with under 10 minutes remaining on the clock.
           
Stevens would out-shoot 'Wick 32-9 in the contest. The Ducks would grab 16 of 22 draws and they registered 30 ground balls to the Hawks' 19.
           
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) recorded a game-high six ground balls on the afternoon. Rosenberg had three ground balls and two draws. Coons, Emma Kaplan (Danbury, CT/Danbury), and Abby Letourneau (South Portland, ME/South Portland) chipped in two ground balls apiece.      
           
Goalkeeper Carleigh Tarala (Tully, NY/Tully) made nine saves for the Hawks in the cage.
           
Stevens (9-6, 5-2 E8), which is receiving votes in the latest IWLCA national poll, received six goals and two assists from Erika Wilcox. Kathleen Kalbian added three tallies and one helper.
           
Hartwick (4-9, 1-5 E8) next plays on Monday, April 25 in a makeup game with Elmira. Game time is 5 p.m.
