Women’s Soccer Shuts Out St. Joseph’s 3-0

Box Score ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick women's soccer earned a clean sheet on Sunday to wrap up play in the Mayor's Cup on Red Dragon Field om Sunday. The Hawks defeated St. Joseph's LI by a final score of 3-nil to improve to 4-1 on the season.
           
The Hawks dominated in possession for the entire match yet all the goals came in the opening half of play. Sierra Bentley (Worcester, NY/Schenevus) opened the scoring less than eight minutes in after receiving a pass from Allie Ricci (/Millstone, NJ/Saint John Vianney). Bentley received the pass in the box and fired a left-footed shot to the far corner for 1-0 lead.
           
The Hawks added to their total just over 20 minutes later. Rachel Weir (New Milford, CT/New Milford) finished for her second goal of the season on an unassisted tally.
           
Twenty-eight seconds from the first-half whistle, the Hawks tacked on their third tally of the day. Ashley Connolly (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) scored to beat Samanatha Wadderburn for her second goal of the year. Alyssa Bennett (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was credited with the assist.
           
The Hawks had several chances in the second half to add to their total but they were denied by Golden Eagle keeper Samantha Wedderburn. They finished with an 18-2 edge in shots for the match.
           
Megan McGillycuddy (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) and Celeste Trevellini (Bayside, NY/World Journalism) combined for the shutout. McGillycuddy made one stop in the opening 45 minutes. Trevellini played the final 45 and was not called upon the make a save
           
Bentley and Madison Miller (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) were named to the Mayor's Cup All-Tournament Team for their efforts over the weekend.
           
The Hawks next play on Saturday, September 17 at home. The Hawks open up Empire 8 Conference play against Stevens Institute of Technology, which was ranked 14 in the NSCAA Preseason Poll, at 2  p.m.
